I got a Westy, back in July
On July 7, 2008 I became the third owner of a 1972 Volkswagen Westfalia Campmobile. I purchased it in Portland Oregon, for the sum of $2300 and proceeded to drive it back to Reno, Nevada where I go to school. The day after I made the 15 and a half hour drive to Reno, the clutch decided to go out, which I then had to replace, $300 later mind you.
Two days after I got the clutch in, the bus refused to turn over when I went to go out to play hockey. Seeing as how I presumed it was the alternator, since the battery was tested and checked out ok. I heard from a couple of people that with the '72 the engine had to be dropped in order to replace it.... this was in August mind you. Now... in November, the new alternator is finally in, after dropping the engine that apparently did not have to be taken out in the first place.
So finally, hopefully today I will be able to actually drive and enjoy it, and then begin working on the cosmetic issues as opposed to the mechanical issues that have plagued it since the time I bought it.
